Parking guidance is one of the tools available to the transport network manager to help reduce traffic congestion.  Studies show that the average distance travelled to find a parking space can be reduced by up to 50% through the introduction of a parking guidance system.

In September 2006, South Bank Corporation in Brisbane launched their Parking Guidance System. The project was a joint initiative between South Bank Corporation, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Corporate Administration Agency (QPAC and Queensland Museum). This state-of-the-art facility shows motorists in the South Bank precinct the availability of car park spaces the area.

The system includes some significant innovations that allow it to be deployed across a wider area and assist the management of traffic at major events, shopping centres and sporting/concert venues.  It can also be deployed to encourage greater use of public transport facilities by those travelling to these events.  Dave Johnson  from Transmax will be presenting this case study.
